Trauma Informed Schools

Trauma Informed approach

Ringshall School takes a trauma informed approach to pupil behaviour and wellbeing. The school is currently working toward achieving ‘Trauma Informed’ School status with Trauma Informed School UK.

A trauma informed school is one that supports children who suffer, or have suffered, from trauma or mental health problems and whose troubled behaviour acts as a barrier to learning and/or wellbeing. Therefore an empathic and nurturing response to challenging or emotional behaviour, that recognises the causes of the behaviour is a key component of our approach to tackling poor behaviour and supporting wellbeing.

Central to the trauma informed approach is developing relationships and implementing interventions with children that heal minds, brains and bodies. Key conversational skills in addressing and making sense of what has happened to a child is central to creating a trauma informed culture in school.
