The Eco Committee led our whole school Bug Hunt today! The children enjoyed searching for creepy crawling in every corner of the school grounds.
Beech Class had lots of fun on the bug hunt.
Well done to the Asset Arrows and Eco Councils from all of the Asset schools for your hard work towards the Food Project. Children from Ringshall joined other schools from the trust to present the work done in school and discuss our next steps. Next week, at sports day, we will be selling copies of Asset Nourish, A collection of recipes from our ASSET school communities as part of our Food Project. These will be sold with a suggested donation of £2.50 to cover printing costs via mobile app.
Willow Class challenged themselves to create the 5 Platonic Solids in their history lesson today. Mathematics was incredibly important to the ancient Greeks and many of their theories are still taught today.
Our school trip last week, Acorns visited Colchester Zoo as part of our Animal Safari topic.
Hazel Class enjoyed their trip to Jimmy's farm this week.
This week Acorns took on the role of the Hungry Caterpillar. We taste tested all of the food the caterpillar ate - but only small amounts as we didnt want a belly ache!
Beech had great fun making pizzas today! We tried to make them healthier by using a wholemeal wrap for the base and including protein and fruit and vegetables for the toppings. This was part of our whole school food project. I'm sure Jamie Oliver would love our pizzas!
Oak class Design and Technology lesson was focusing on the food project, learning cutting techniques for different fruits.
Willow Class enjoyed preparing overnight oats for their breakfast tomorrow! We can't wait to try them.
Willow Class planted tomato and raspberry plants in the garden this afternoon.
Oak Class have been testing the hypothesis that a low resting heart rate leads to faster running times as part of their circulatory system unit in science. The children recorded their resting heart rates then ran around the school track. Time versus resting heart rate was then plotted on a scatter graph. The result showed a clear correlation between a lower resting heart rate and a faster run time. Well done Oak class.
Willow class created different solutions to test how evaporation separates a solvent from a solute.

Beech Class enjoyed making switches in their science lesson! They used split pins, paper and paper clips. This helped them to understand more about conductors and how switches work.
16.06.25 Oak class - Crucial crew at The Mix
Year 6 attended a personal health and safety event, featuring interactive workshops delivered by emergency services, including Suffolk Fire and Rescue, Suffolk Police, School Nurses, Turning Point (drugs and alcohol), British Army Welfare, First Aid in Education and The Mix's Youth Work Team.

This week saw our parents arts cafe. We had an amazing number of parents come to school and work with their children on a whole range of arts projects both inside and the classroom. Thank you for all your support.

Oak class enjoying their brand new ukuleles. It's always more fun playing a better instrument and thanks to our recent music grant we have been able to upgrade our ukulele set.

This week Oak class explored the function and make-up of our blood. As part of this they made their own blood substitute. This allowed them to replicate separating the blood plasma, the white blood cells and platelets and the red blood cells.

British Sign Language 12.05.25
Today we were visited by Emma, who taught our year 6 children British Sign Language. Emma's mother is deaf and so she became fluent in sign language as a child. She taught the children the alphabet, greetings, foods and so much more. She also spoke about what it is like living with deafness.
VE day Veteran Visitor 09.05.2025
Mrs Gooch's Grandad, Peter Norton came into school today, to share his Second World War medals and spoke to the children. The children were able to ask him lots of questions too.

On Tuesday 6th May we were really lucky to have a sporting masterclass session delivered by St Joseph's College in Ipswich. They brought two ex professional sports people. Cole Skuse (ex Ipswich Town football player), Maria Lutua (who played Netball 84 times for Fiji) and Mr Sharpe rugby coach at St Joseph's College.
