Our areas
Our Areas
In early years we have our inside and outside areas that the children are able to use to develop their learning. Within continuous provision, these areas are open for them to explore through child-initiated or adult-led activities.
Both within our inside and outside area, we have many places that the children are able to explore:
Inside
Writing area: to promote independent writing, access to phonics resources and adult-initiated activities to support learning further
Home/role play area: this area is often changed in line with our current topic or events to promote imaginative play and develop social skills
Reading area: giving access to lots of different and diverse fiction and non-fiction books that help promote a passion for reading
Maths area: linked to reading books, and adult-led activities to support learning
Creative area: with links to our curriculum learning this area includes junk modelling, promoting creativity within adult-led activities or free-flow choosing
Construction area: that includes bricks and blocks, promoting teamwork and building on children social interactions and imaginative play
Small world area: helping children to understand the world around them with real life links and links to our class topic
Playdough station: free-flow activities that promote the development of fine motor skills with links to current learning
Fine motor skills station: our station ‘funky fingers’ allows children to develop their fine motor skills by taking part in a variety of different activities with the use of a variety of different equipment such as tongs, spoons, threading, pipe cleaners and pegs.
Outside
Construction Area: with the use of equipment such as wheelbarrows, bricks, blocks, cones children are able to develop gross motor skills through imaginative play, promoting teamwork and social skills
Writing/Creative Area: this area promoting independent writing with access to a variety of different art materials
Sand Area: used for free-flow choosing as well as adult-led activities that can be linked to curriculum learning
Water Area: used for free-flow choosing as well as adult-led activities that can be linked to curriculum learning
Cafe/Role Play area: this area can be changed to different settings for imaginative play depending on the curriculum learning, this area helps to promote social skills with real life links
Bikes/Scooters: for children to use on our playground, promoting gross motor skills
Woodland Area: this area is a part of the school that all children have access to, exploring the outdoors with signs of the different seasons for example, taking our skills learnt in the classroom outdoors!
Music Area: we have a range of musical instruments that children can access during free-flow choosing or adult-led activities to develop their musical skills and understanding
