Oak class has continued to work incredibly hard this week. As you can see in these pictures, they have been deeply concentrated on ensuring they are fully focussed when practising our reading comprehension. The children have remembered our tips such as: reading the questions first and using a highlighter to remember key information. Well done Year 6!

For the RSPB Bird Watch, Acorns made their very own bird feeders! They used bird seed, lard and kitchen roll tubes as well as oranges! They then hung them on the trees in the forest.
The children had such fun and worked really well as a team!

Band practice has started at Ringshall School with RockSteady! Great fun was had by our budding Rockstars!
Acorns have been busy putting their 'scientist hats' on! After enjoying the story of The Gingerbread Man, we started wondering: Why did he need the fox's help to cross the river? Why couldn't he just swim across by himself?
To find the answer, the children set up their very own investigation. We used two bowls of water - one warm and one cold. The children decided that the cold water was the best "river" because real rivers are chilly! Before we started, we practiced our prediction skills, with the children sharing their wonderful ideas about what might happen to the biscuit. We were amazed to see that the Gingerbread Man quickly began to soften and break apart in the water. We even noticed that he crumbled much faster in the warm water!
On Wednesday we held our first 'Our Schools, Our World' assembly on the topic of water. Do you know where our water comes from? This term we will continue to learn about protecting our waterways and how we can do this in school and at home.
Year 2s in Beech class used straws and playdough to make 2D shapes.
In Maths, Hazel were using numicon to find all the different ways of making 20!
Beech Class tested rocks to help them decide if they were sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic.
Acorn class learning was based on the story Little Red Riding Hood. We turned into the 'big bad wolf' by using our cutting skills to create a wolf headband.
Willow class spent the afternoon finding all of the states in the USA. We have begun our class map of the Americas to help us document our learning this half term.
On Tuesday RockSteady visited the school to showcase the new RockSteady music lessons that will start in school next Friday.
These are small group music lessons where children form a multi instrument rock band. They are taught to play songs using either the drums, electric guitar, electric bass, keyboards or vocals.
At the end of every term each band will play a rock concert to the rest of the school and their parents.
There are only a few places left if you want to sign your child up.

Beech Class made flatbreads like they used to in the Iron Age. They also made their own butter from mixing double cream. The cheeky class elf made snow angels in the flour!!
Hazel class spent an afternoon decorating some ornaments to sell at the Christmas fair.

Beech class had a delicious History lesson. They used cakes and biscuits to create stone circles and roundhouses.
The children in Willow Class have been learning all about space this term. This week, we created sundials and used them to measure time on the playground.

Willow Class responded to an image with music today. They thought about which sounds and rhythms could represent the moon, sun and stars.
In Art, Hazel were mixing primary colours together and painting on templates.
Last week, Beech Class peeled and cut potatoes in D&T. They enjoyed trying both roast and boiled potatoes. We are looking forward to making some tacos in a couple of weeks!

Oak class has had another lovely week. In Art lessons, Oak have begun their new topic Birds, Beetles, Bugs and Butterflies with Mrs Medlrum and they have produced some wonderful examples which can be seen in our photos. We are really impressed with their determination and attention to detail. Well done Oak!

The Year 3 children were super teachers helping the Year 2 children add two 2 digit numbers!
Beech Class have been working on creating Bell Beaker clay pots. They did a great job at shaping and decorating their pots!
Oak class has been working really hard on writing a balanced argument this week! Our argument has been focussed around the story of the 'Lorax' thinking about the impact of deforestation. Our main aim has been making sure our writing is cohesive. Well done to Year 6 for some very impressive work and some lovely PJ's!

We have been really lucky to have Mr Sharp, a specialist rugby coach from St Joseph's college and Stowmarket Rugby club coming into school to coach rugby to the Year 6s over the last few weeks in their PE lessons. #
Year 6 are really enjoying this block of work and with this contact at Stowmarket rugby club they have the opportunity of continuing some rugby outside of school at Stowmarket Rugby club if they would like to.

Members of the eco committee collected our lunch time waste to show the school how much we create in a day. They spoke to the children about reducing plastic waste and how important this is for sustaining our oceans.

Oak class have been working incredibly hard in Science. Over the last half term, we have been learning about Light theory and colour perception. This week we have been planning our own experiments exploring light theory. The children have thought carefully about their question to investigate and we look forward to finding out the results next week.
In Science, Beech Class were being super scientists. We were measuring our bones and recording the data.
Beech Class year 2s had great fun making number lines in Maths. We learned about start numbers, end numbers and intervals. Our number lines were counting in 1s today!

Congratulations to those who competed in the schools cross country event last week. Everyone tried really hard and everyone completed the course. Congratulations to Juno who came in the top 10 girls event who has been selected to run in the next round next week at RHS.

Here are our playleaders for this term, they have been doing a great job at lunchtimes leading activities for KS1 on a Tuesday lunchtime and for KS2 on a Thursday lunchtime. On the other days they have been lending out sports equipment for all the children to play with. Well done Elizabeth, Serena, Olivia and Tallulah.
Willow Class learned about the ingenuity of the Beaker people on Friday. We then created our own Bronze Age pots, complete with line patterns.
Oak class has been working really hard this week. We have been writing recounts about our brilliant trip to PGL which the children have really enjoyed. When writing, the children have been focussing on consistently writing in correct tense and accurately using commas to separate clauses and for lists.
Along with this, we have also introduced 'ask me about...' this week. A selection of children will be given stickers which say 'ask me about...' something related to their recent learning. As the children move around the school, this gives them a chance to recall their learning and explain it to others.

Acorn Class have settled in well. They are enjoying exploring the resources and their new environment as well as making new friends.
In Maths, Hazel was learning how to represent objects using a ten frame.
Willow Class looked for a connection between mass and weight. They practised taking accurate measurements using a Newton meter.

Wow what a fantastic time we have had at PGL! We have taken part in so many different activities- a Climbing Wall, a Giant Swing, Zip Lining, Learning survival skills and more!
We have been blown away by the incredible attitude the children have had. They have been polite, supportive, respectful and determined.
Every child has tried new things and they have overcome some fears! We are so proud of what they have achieved and the lovely bond they have.
Beech class had lots of fun catching woolly mammoths , fishing, gathering berries, sharpening tools and other great activities. We used our imagination in our forest, and went back to the Stone Age.
We were really lucky to have Ms Hales in again to teach KS1 and KS2 maypole dancing in their PE lessons this week. The children learned a couple of dances and enjoyed making pretty patterns with the ribbons to the beat of the music. Great fun was had by everyone all day and we would like to give Ms Hales a huge thank you for giving up her time to give the children the opportunity of learning maypole dancing.
Oak class has had a brilliant start to the term! This week we have been learning greeting signs in British Sign language (our new Language focus here at Ringshall). The children have also begun their new PE unit for this half term- Team building. They have worked incredibly hard and will continue to develop these skills as we go off on our adventure to PGL next week. Well done Oak class!
Willow Class enjoyed learning about air resistance through pattern seeking.
Willow class used apples from the school orchard to make Cinnamon Apple Rings. We sliced the apples into thin rings, coated them in cinnamon sugar and then wrapped them in puff pastry. We all agreed they were delicious!
